In trying to find more information about the Japanese slide, I came across these two vintage elephants, one in Leipzig and one in Mecklenberg. The obvious suitability of an elephant’s trunk for a slide makes this one of the most popular play animalias…giving rise to interpretations ranging from the blocky modernity of the Mecklenberg example to the cartoony friendliness of the Leipzig piece.
