More from Singapore…ships, like trains, can be overdone on the playground but the grand scale of this one, plus its modern slatted construction, make it exceptional! Appropriately, the playground references the nearby Sembawang Shipyard, which was a British Naval Base from 1938 to 1968. Note the physical challenge of getting into the ‘escape hatch’ at the side of the ship…much better design than just letting the kids walk through a portal. There is more great use of tilted surfaces, and the battleship is set. in. sand. (because really, no battleship should be set in plastic, should it?)
