O-o pony* is Poland’s first recycling playground with safety certificate. The authors – Sara Podwysocka (designer, sculptor, graphic designer) and Maria Ostrowska (designer, jeweler, teacher) as a group Reshtki conduct workshops and design of waste materials.
In 2013 they designed and built a playground made entirely from used tires and pallets.
The project was presented on the exhibition Re:Miasto (Re: City) 2013. By finding a sponsor draft was enacted. The aim was to come up with attractive forms and devices for children, supporting the psychomotor development, a little obvious, developing imagination and ecological thinking. Construction of individual devices was consulted with the CKPZ (Center of Playgrounds Safe Control). The next step was to find materials. Designers had a lot of difficulty finding a huge tires with a diameter of 150 cm to perform the sandbox and trampolines.
O-o pony is a pioneering project of this type in Poland. It was built entirely from waste. All facilities have been designed in accordance with safety standards, only materials with hygienic certificates have been applied. The authors emphasize the educational aspect – children and parents learn that by changing their approach to the so-called “waste” we care about the environment.
